All my life, I grew up with numbers. At an early age, I remember, when I was in sixth grade, I was already helping my father in our wholesale and retail grocery. He taught me the abacus, the adding machine and Mr. Underwood, a.k.a. the typewriter. In high school, I have learned double entry bookkeeping.
Such that, after graduation, I pursued Business Administration, majored in Accounting, and became licensed.
Flash forward twelve years, I held on to my second job for 17 1/2 years. Accounting, cash management, collections and auditing was all I did for a law firm that has over 100 lawyers. Not that I did not love what I do, there was just the lacking of the upgrade in the changing “electronic” times. I quit. Just like that, two and a half years ago.
Now, I am still in the same environment, but on a smaller scale, less that 100 lawyers. Because I love what I do, I excel in my field. My time is flexible, but I prefer to come in early. I cannot complain about the special perks I get, the firm is happy with my performance.
When I was interviewed by the CEO, I said that I plan to retire with this firm. Maybe that was the winning statement.
I was awarded in the last Christmas Party, the “MVP” of our branch office, which is also our Corporate office. I know the feeling is mutual.

Congratulations on your recent work achievement. It’s rewarding to find a job that you are great at and enjoy at the same time.

Permit me to ask if this is your ideal work that doesn’t seem like work?
When we love our job, it shows with the way we perform our duties. This is especially true with teachers, that no matter how one likes or not the working environment these should not affect how we deal with the children.
Thanks Ebie, for giving us a glimpse in your world of work. Perhaps my son who loves numbers (he prefers statistics, calculators, calendars and world records) will do well in a work environment like yours although he says he likes to be a chef
Have a great week!

Hi Ebie. Bloghopped from Julie’s.
Congrats with the MVP award. I suppose the retirement statement did nail it for you.
