WS: A Taste of Home
How many of us feels homesick once we are transplanted to a different country? Long for our native delicacies or even just say, I should have done this or that?
Looks familiar?
Sometimes, I say we are lucky or just spoiled to be in my neck of the woods, California, either Northern and Southern.
In my previous post, I featured some Filipino establishments where you could say, oh, its just like my hometown. Now, in another part of Van Nuys, CA, I can present a taste of home.
I do not have to travel hundreds of miles, just 7 miles, if I feel like cooking cassava (yucca) pudding, my all time favorite dessert. This is just a one-stop-shopping-and-dining.
I hope you had a nice weekend everyone!

Yeah, I feel proud too. Even with our products and artists, I am indeed proud to be a Pinoy! (Although 50/50 Chinese/Filipino)

The first time I came to US,specifically in California, I never fell in love with it instantly, bec my mind set was, “ano ba ito, parang ‘pinas din, dami pang pinoy” the feeling of being in US wasn’t there at all bec I’m expecting snow, big shopping malls,etc..etc..but now, I missed it terribly!!

@Willa, napunta sa spam ang comment mo, I wonder? That was my feeling, too, after living in NY for 3 years. I used to buy the yucca and have to manually grind it to make cassava cake. Now, I am so spoiled, everything Filipino is at our fingertips. We even have our own Filipino town and there’s going to be a big happening in June for the Independence Day celebration.

Good for you, at least you don’t have to travel far to have them. Sometimes it’s really funny how we ignore them here, but once you’ve left the country, you suddenly think of how much you’ve missed those foods. Kakaloka ano.

Hi Ebie, yes I remember how homesick I was when I first came to America. It took a long, long time not to feel that way I missed my family so, but I was very fortunate being able to get back and forth and my parents and other members of my family came to see us pretty regularly. Back then I don’t remember any of the British food being sold as it is now. When I found the small British gift-shop/restaurant many years later where I eventually worked at for five years, I remember being over the moon, especially when I realized most everyone was British and we were all in the same boat so to speak. Now you can find British food everywhere. Thanks for stopping by my blog. In answer to your question, do I have a green thumb? Far from it, but I got a lot of help from Mother Nature with all the rain we had and those plants I took photos of are very hardy, my garden friends
Have a great week. I enjoyed this post very much, thank you.

There’s Max Restaurant, but in another city. They have a restaurant in the Mid Wilshire area, and I do not know if its still there. Although there is one in Glendale. That is another city that is thickly populated with Filipinos, and there is a mall that that seems like a little Manila. There are so many Filipino restaurants and Supermarket. I will explore that area later and will do my third post.
