“Jeepneys are the most popular means of public transportation in the Philippines. They were originally made from US military jeeps left over from World War II and are well known for their flamboyant decoration and crowded seating. They have also become a symbol of Philippine culture.
The word jeepney is usually believed to be a portmanteau of “jeep” and “jitney”. Source.

Surprise! A Philippine jeepney in the heart of Bishop, California, about 40 miles to Mammoth Lakes. Who would have thought that we would see this in town?
As we were driving to town, on the US 395 route, the traffic was so slow because they were celebrating “Mule Days”. Being observant, while very cautiously driving, I spot this on display. So on our way home, I have to stop and take a photo.

The scientific name is Dianthus Caryophyllus, that means flower of love or flower of the gods. The Carnation has ruffled appearance, clove like scent and extended blooming period.

In the early part of the 20th century, the flower became the official flower of Mother’s Day. It has the meaning of admiration, love and gratitude. Especially given on May 15, in celebration of Teacher’s Day. And these flowers are dedicated to everyone, who stopped by my blog as a Guest Friend. I am truly overwhelmed with the numerous responses.

Carnations require well drained, neutral and alkaline soil. It can easily get along with other flowers too.
On a side note, anyone interested on the Afghan pattern, I found it. If you need a copy, please drop a line or two, I will send you a copy. (Safeguarding infringement rights.)
