Weekend Snapshot: Jeepney

“Jeepneys are the most popular means of public transportation in the Philippines. They were originally made from US military jeeps left over from World War II and are well known for their flamboyant decoration and crowded seating. They have also become a symbol of Philippine culture.
The word jeepney is usually believed to be a portmanteau of “jeep” and “jitney”.  Source.

Jeepney

Surprise!  A Philippine jeepney in the heart of Bishop, California, about 40 miles to Mammoth Lakes.  Who would have thought that we would see this in town?

As we were driving to town, on the US 395 route, the traffic was so slow because they were celebrating “Mule Days”. Being observant, while very cautiously driving, I spot this on display.  So on our way home, I have to stop and take a photo.
