Christmas in July- Poinsettia

Our Gracious Hosts
In the United States, Christmas in July is usually used as a marketing tool, rather than an actual holiday celebrated by ordinary people. Some television stations may choose to re-run Christmas specials, although many stores have “Christmas in July” sales.
Poinsettias, (Euphorbia pulcherrima) are closely associated as the Christmas Flower, named after the former US ambassador to Mexico, Dr. Joel R. Poinsett who introduced the flower to the United States. They are also native to southern Mexico and Central America.
Poinsettias come in a lot of different colors: cream, lemon, peach, pink colors and with white-and-gold-splashed leaves. They have names like Monet, Jingle Bells, Cortez burgundy, peppermint, winter rose, plum pudding and marble. There are also more than 100 varieties of poinsettias.
I am trying my best to identify the varieties, this could be Eckespoint Freedom Red
and the closest name I get is “Peppermint Twist”
This could be “Ice Punch”
Egg Nog
How about you? Do you celebrate Christmas in July?

Oh no – don’t remind me of Christmas yet Ebie!
I am too busy enjoying the little summer we have in this country! But the flowers are beautiful, and they are very common as Christmas flowers. I never buy them, because I really don’t know how to make them last longer than to New Year! I cannot do that to such beautiful flowers!
Have a great day!

I like the first two shots a lot. They give a sense of infinite flowers. No, I don’t celebrate Christmas in July. I barely celebrate Christmas as I dislike the commercialization of a religious holiday. However, I know that once I get older and start a family, I may see things differently.

Ebie, My poinsetta is blooming in the house – not in my garden! Much too cold here in the Mts for that delicate bloom, though I don’t seem to be able to kill it in the house!
