The weather was particularly hot this weekend and it was in three digits. We decided to drive down Ventura County towards Santa Barbara and visit the beaches. Since it was still early, we proceeded to the historic downtown.
The City Hall with the statue of Franciscan priest, Fr. Junipero Serra. Pardon the dust, but they are fixing the roof.
Mission San Buenaventura was established in 1782 by Fr. Serra. It was one of the 21 inspiring missions, founded each a day’s journey apart along the California coastline.
Edited: 07/20/09. A fellow blogger, Mari, did a pencil drawing almost exactly like this picture. Please check it out here.
This road leads straight to the coast.
Buildings along Main Street.
Parts Unknown? I don’t know if its the name of the store.
This a portion of the long wall mural across from the Mission. It is outlined with blue mosaic tiles.
After the walk, we headed to the beach, and that would be another story. Happy Tuesday everyone, although it is Monday here in this side of the world!
Thanks to the My World team, Klaus, Sandy, Ivar, Wren, Louise and Fishing Guy for making this a world wide event. Click the badge above for more happenings around the world and join us!

I love that place, Ebie. Ventura is a nice quaint place, and the temp there is always cool. My art class had a field trip there in 2005 and I drew the mission in pencil. Here check out the drawing: http://my-art-corner.blogspot.com/2007/09/mission-san-buenaventura.html

Hi Ebie,
I’m often in “parts unknown!” Liked the long shot down to the ocean. Nice tour of the city. You sure have beautiful mosaics in CA!

Ebie, some years ago I launched a quest to visit all 21 of the Cali missions. So far I have only seen/visited 7 of them. Long long way to go.
I sure would love to continue this quest some day. Your photos of the city are marvelous.
It was triple digit in the inlands here too. It was 104 as we were looking for a sofa and ended up buying another rug

Great pics from Ventura! I think I’d have to go straight to the beach and dip my toes into the cool ocean. Especially on a hot day.

At first I thought the blue mosaic tiles was table cloth
I wouldn’t have known if you didn’t describe it further. I also love the shot of the road to the coast. Murag ok lang lakwon? Part of it looks like Pattaya in Thailand but “Parts unknown” US na jud kaau
