Outdoor Wednesday: Trees
Hosted by Susan @ A Southern Daydreamer
TREES
by: Joyce Kilmer (1886-1918)
I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.
A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth’s sweet flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in Summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.
Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.
I hope you have enjoyed wandering the woods with me.

Beautiful poem and photos. OK, though, what does the MEME tag mean. I think I have seen it elsewhere as well.

Hi Ebie
First time to your pretty blog.
Love the trees. Some reminded me of when we lived in GA. We do not have anything like that here in Ont. Canada. Well I don’t think we do!!!
Happy OW

I have a cross-stich of a tree with the quote “Only God can make a tree, the rest is up to you and me”. It was a project during my high school years and it is still hanged on the wall.

Hi Again.
In the “filed under” section, you filed this under California, Descanso Gardens, Los Angeles, Meme, Outdoor Wednesday.
So my question was, what does the “Meme” thing mean?

This poem was set to music years ago and we used to sing it in Jr. High Choir.

And great choice for the accompanying text. Joyce Kilmer’s Trees is among the loveliest poems about trees we have in our in-desperate-need-for-more-trees planet.
