We continue our drive to Panamint Valley through the winding road and scenic view, with the constant use of your brakes. Death Valley Scenic Byway is 81.5 miles long and is a 2 hour drive or 3.5 hours on a stop and go. It is the entrance to over 3 million acres of expansive mountain vistas, rare desert wildlife and interesting historical and cultural sites.
First stop is Father Crowley Point. This was named after a Catholic Priest who ministered in the area in the 1930s, and who was said to make frequent stops at the overlook.
The water remains from the rain the day before
It is steep and deep!

Great views of the mountains
The Panamint was the last known home of the Manson family. They were apprehended on a ranch in the eastern hills.

Wonderful photos Ebie! I’d love to drive though Death Valley someday and see all the sights there. I did see the Mohave desert once …it as so interesting.
Happy Outdoor Wednesday!

I like to go to Death Valley when it’s in bloom -in the Spring, but I’ve heard that one needs to reserve in a hotel/motel long before (because there’s only one -if my info. is correct?)
Painters go here to paint the gorgeous mountain ranges.

You got some great shots, Ebie. This is a wonderful time of year to visit Death Valley with all the snow and water running in the creeks. Most years you don’t see this.
As for my hike at Hidden Falls, is was an easy hike of about 3 miles, little elevation gain. We could have gone further but hadn’t brought lunch. By adding a second loop in the other direction we could have made it a 5 or 6 mile hike.
