This species commonly called as Tree poppies are native to Southern California and Mexico. The botanical name is Romneya coulteri.

This showy white flower has six petals that are usually crinkled with many yellow stamens and a single large pistil.

The Matilija blooms from May to July. It also appears to be of Chumash origin. The name relates to a Chief Matilija who lived in Ventura County. The name is used also for Matilija Canyon above the community of Ojai and Matilija Creek in the Los Padres National Forest.

The Wisteria is more accurately referred to as a vine, but if trained will grow upright by climbing and will resemble a tree.

A few varieties will grow as a tree, but will still climb on anything within reach.

The Wisteria tree features hanging blossoms

They are fragrant, and appearing in great profusion.

This was taken somewhere along Hwy 190 in Death Valley. I think we were driving near the Panamint Range heading home to our hotel on our first day of our vacation in February this year.
