Farmers Market Challenge

Judy, AKA Squirrel Queen of The Road to Here, hosts this Farmers’ Market Challenge. The purpose of this challenge is to raise awareness for purchasing locally produced foods. Be it fruits, vegetables, dairy products or related items we want to know what’s available where you live.

Every Thursday, the downtown Farmers’ Market located just a block away from work is my where I hang out during my lunch break.  The place is so busy serving breakfast and early lunch specials.

The market is a favorite of a lot of office workers in the downtown area.

One of my favorites are the strawberries. Although the season is over, they still have this organically grown from  San Bernardino, that’s what my favorite vendor said. They cost $2 per basket and 3 for $5 if you buy in bulk.  Honestly, they taste so sweet.   Yes, free sample taste test!

I don’t know how these two workers stand the summer heat preparing he kettle corn to satisfy our sweet taste.  I buy this every other week.

I bought this last Thursday at $2 each head.  Pretty reasonable. I served this at dinner time with shrimp and chicken tenders mixed with red bell peppers and carrots.  I added oyster sauce to give flavor.

Since 9/11, the building management has been very strict with photography.  But I manage to take a few photos.  I can only do it from a distance.

Until the next challenge!

London Bridge is Falling Down

Remember the song?

Yes, the famed London Bridge built in 1831 was really “falling down” sinking into the river Thames. It could not handle the increasing traffic. It is now in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. It was purchased by Robert P. McCulloch, Sr. from the City of London on April 18, 1968. The bid was $2,460,000.00.

The 10,276 pieces of granite weighing 22 million pounds, were shipped from Panama Canal to Long Beach, California. It was then hauled by truck to its final destination.

It took 3 years to rebuild the bridge, brick by brick, and was finished in 1971. It is 952 feet long as compared to its original of 1005 feet.

We walked on top of the bridge and checked put the detail of the lamp post.

Now, that’s a little bit of history. Likewise, the photo is also a history, taken during our CA-NV-AZ sight seeing during Christmas of 2005, using a hybrid camera  NIKON Coolpix 8700.  We have not visited the place again.

An afternoon visit at the Huntington Gardens.

This car was parked next to mine

And I saw another one!

Enjoy your weekend everyone! I hope the weather cools off, the winds die down, we have a few brush fires going on here.

Full Moon

I am happy to report that my kitty has finished her antibiotic today and she is back to her normal self: waiting for us by the window sill in the afternoon. But we still have to go back to see the vet on Sunday. And to make up for my time off from blogging, I am sharing with you our sunset and full moon shots taken last Sunday.  Besides being attacked by at least 30 spammers, nothing exciting happened in our household.
We were at Stough Park in the Burbank hills area. I was watching the sunset while Zee was setting up our celestial telescope.

The sun’s glow was so red hot, giving its most powerful color. Even the weeds have enjoyed the light coming through.

Fading away, saying goodbye

We saw the sun settled to its nest, and enjoyed the  cool breeze. I could see the foggy effect in the mountains.  Just as the moon was rising  in the easterly direction, Zee was done with the assembly.

GORGEOUS!

Cause and Effect

It was extremely hot today, temperatures in the high 90′s. No cooking….the kitchen is closed. Just cottage cheese and peaches. On the other hand, the skies and clouds were so beautiful today. I went for sunset shots in the Burbank Hills area. It was worth the 15 minute of sunset glory.

The weather will be hot all through this weekend.  We want to make the most of it.  Stay cool and drink plenty of water.
