The header shot is a panoramic view of this goldfields blooming along the way to Anza Borrego. We loved it and the cows love it too! Take a peek and click it to see a larger version.

How did the Anza Borrego got its name, we ask? Anza, after Juan Baustista de Anza, an 18th century Spanish explorer and Borrego from the Spanish word meaning Bighorn sheep. It is a three hour drive from Los Angeles.

This shot shows the ocotillo, the cholla, desert sunflowers and some barrel cacti. We were lucky to find these flowers so I can share them with you. I did some research, and I hope the names are correctly identified with the flowers. Remember, these wildflowers are short lived, it gets so hot in the desert in the summertime.

Pancake Prickley Pear?

Chia – Salvia columbariae

Sand verbena

Anza Borrego Desert Park is the largest State Park in California with 600,000 acres of natural beauty and habitat for flora and fauna. The desert may be arid, but it boasts these beautiful wildflowers.

Hunt for Wildflowers

For the next couple of weekends we will be on the road with our photo group in the quest of wildflowers in Southern California. Though we have enough rainfall, we need the ever powerful for the flowers to open and bring smiles to us.

This past Saturday, we traveled through the different Southern California State routes to check out the colors in lowlands and in highlands.

Unity in Prayers

The skies gloom
disaster and turmoil in Japan
our hearts ache

Cherry blossoms everywhere
it is springtime we celebrate
blooms this season

Unity in prayers
Calmness our hearts we feel
Let us help

I have 2 cousins in Japan, south of the disaster area, with 9 children between the two of them. Everyone is fine but it is a scary feeling.

Peace, I give to you…

Photo Day with the Horses

One of the most difficult panoramic stitch I have ever done.

With the San Gabriel Mountains as the back drop, it was a beautiful day to spend at the Santa Anita Park with a group of photographers all around Los Angeles, Orange and Riverside counties. I have a special press pass too!

The home of Sea Biscuit

Yes, we were privileged to have front row views, real close up

This is the rotunda where racing horses parade (after being tattooed)

to the paddock to be saddled

Did I win? No, I did not bet!

It was fun though!
