From Interstate 40 in Yucca, AZ, you can see this odd structure, a cross between a giant golf ball and a space ship. Built in 1976 by Lake Havasu Estates as a restaurant and cocktail lounge by the land developer, originally named “Dinesphere”, this is now renamed Area 66.

This Golf Ball House is now a private residence and not open to the public. There is a store on the grounds and the area is themed with alien-like oddities.

Space ship??

How interesting!

I could not get enough of this strange place. In the middle of nowhere, in the desert. It was a great stop for this road trip to Sedona, AZ.

Not a good year for wildflowers, but we managed to see a few patches of them.

One of our stop along RTE 66 is this very popular restaurant/saloon called the Road Kill Cafe.  We were there in time to watch the sun go down.

a few minutes late, we would  have missed it.

Stone Pillars Along Oak Creek

This is our third hike for the day. Easy. Leisurely. It was a perfect timing for sunset. We arrived at 4:30 in the afternoon. However the park closes at dusk, so we hurried and took our shots. The moon was starting to rise and the sun setting at the opposite direction. What a beautiful combination!

(check out the bruise on my leg!)

We walked a little further to “Buddha Beach” across Oak Creek where visitors construct stone pillars from the river rock. I thought there were hundreds of the rock structures and formations.

Soda Lake and Temblor Range

It was a busy weekend for us in our quest for wildflowers in Southern California. We went to Carrizo Plain National Monument with a group of explorers and photographers. It was not as great as last year’s bloom where the mountains were filled with golds and purples. In my personal opinion, it has something to do with the weather: the rains, the cold and the sun, these wildflowers were not able to adapt.  There was 2 inches of snow Friday night.

See the difference?

It was a long drive from Bakersfield and came home late last night. I would like to thank my frequent visitors who enjoy my short trips this wildflower season. I will get back in track and respond to all your visits.
