You can easily miss Rocky Oaks Park, hidden between houses, roads and other signs of modern life, in the Santa Monica mountains. It consists less than 200 acres of diverse plants and wildlife. A short and low impact hike, it was a way to burn off those calories over the Thanksgiving Day feast.

From the trails, you can see up above at a distane, a private residence or maybe a business along Mulholland Highway. The yellows look like vineyards in rows and terraces.

A closer look of the rocks.

Rocky Oaks Park is also the place where you can ride your horse. One lucky shot, with the background mountain almost shaped like the pyramid.

Bronze buckwheat still adds color amidst the dried grasses

My admiration of taking shots of weeds

In the middle of the small hiking trail, there lies the pond. Here’s a preview.

Happy trails, you won’t get lost!

Ebie, what a great place to walk. I was so full from thanksgiving dinner that walking around the block was difficult but a definite necessity!!!!!!!

The delicate grasses make such a pretty picture, Ebie! They are sturdier than they look, I’m sure. Also, like the bright ribbon along the way … it’s better than breadcrumbs to find the way back from such a trek.

On two hundred acres it’s hard to get lost but a nice place for a hike anyway, especially with the light and autumn colours.

Beautiful, beautiful trail. I love taking shots of weeds as well. Sometimes the unwanted becomes beautiful when you look hard enough. We just have to get down and dirty to see it.
