Life has its twists and turns, one day you are OK, and another, NOT. However, this is not a deterrent of my quest to be at the Sandstone Peak. There are also my limitations. Therefore, after hiking only for up to 3 quarters of a mile, I know I have to make a u-turn.

Sandstone Peak is the highpoint in the Santa Monica Mountains of Southern California. It is also known as Mount Allen, a name that was given and used mainly by the Boy Scouts. During the 1960s, in an attempt to honor Circle X benefactor Herbert Allen, the Scouts petitioned the United States Department of the Interior to rename Sandstone Peak.

On the way back, I amused myself with whatever I see.

While waiting for the rest of the group, I was busy birding

The remnants of summer’s wildflowers

The San Gabriel Mountains in the background

I say to myself, be well and enjoy life!

And you do have a beautiful world, Ebie! Thanks for sharing it though your photos — and they are terrific! I love the flowers and the “up close and personal” shot of the little bird! The last shot is awesome and breathtaking! Have a great week!

Sorry about your sore leg, Ebie. I see we are both using the term “twist and turns” this time around but in your case it is very literal looking at that mountain. Sometimes being still is fun, too. Those are very nice captures of the peaceful environment where you rested.

Hi Ebie, I hope you have recovered from your sore leg. Birding while you were waiting for the group to return looks like a good thing. What a pretty bird. Is it a Yellow rump. I am not familiar with all the western birds. Your photos are beautiful.

Thanks for taking me along. Since I cannot go over 2,000′, I would never have been able to go there myself, at least not without an oxygen bottle.

Sorry ’bout your leg and having to turn around, but you are right to listen to your body! And you got some great pictures as you waited. When I hiked with my daughter-in-law in Colorado, I did the same thing (because I got out-of-breath in that altitude) and I got some good pictures while I waited for her.
