The Volcanic Tablelands is located 6 miles north of Bishop, California. It is a vast volcanic landscape that was formed over 700,000 years ago by materials spewing from the Long Valley caldera, located to the northwest.
Just before you enter the area, we were greeted with this beautiful pond and landscape. Buy now, after two months, these colorful bushes may have turned brown.

Season: Early Fall – October 7, 2011
Bishop, CA

From Bishop, take State Highway 6 north to Five Bridges Road, then take a left. Proceed on Five Bridges Road 5 miles until it turns into a dirt road. At the entrance to the area, there is a BLM kiosk that provides map and route information for the Tablelands.

Even if it looks like a wasteland, it is an oasis for a lot of living things. But i wonder why no big trees are growing yet, it’s been 700K years! And how far from where you are standing is that snow capped mountain?

Oh, my goodness! What a heavenly view and place to visit. Even if the flowers are dark now, that would make no difference. It would still be beautiful. Your captures are this pond are superb. They make me feel as if I am actually there with you. genie
