Red Cliffs Natural Preserve

Red Rock Canyon State Park is about 25 miles north of Mojave on Highway 14 in Kern County. It is a beautiful area of cliffs, washes, badlands and beautiful rock formations. The park is located where the southernmost tip of the Sierra Nevada converges with the El Paso Mountains.

On Saturday, my photography group was here.   It was at least 100 miles from me, and since we were car pooling, I have to be up by 4 a.m. and our team left at 5:00 to be here by 7a.m.

The sun was behind me and the light just hit the rocks at the right time.

I like to play with my shadows, the only time this petite looks tall.

This is a huge park, and this is the Red Cliffs Natural Preserve. There is the Hagen Canyon just across the highway, and that would be a whole different colors and rock formations. And that was where I slipped and scraped my knee. I held on to my camera, no damage done, thank goodness.

Its great to be outdoors, I will never ran out of photos to share.

This area  has frequently been used as a filming location for motion pictures, television series, advertisements, and rock videos. Examples are Jurassic Park, I’ll be Home for Christmas, and one of my favorite TV show Airwolf  (mid 80′s) with Jan Michael Vincent.  Destiny’s Child also did some of their video shoot here.
