In the middle of nowhere, at an elevation of 4,150 feet in Death Valley, Teakettle Junction lies on the 21st mile from Ubehebe Crater and 6 miles to the Racetrack Playa. Not an easy drive getting here, all 26 miles of rough dirt road, you need a high clearance vehicle or a 4×4.

There is not much history written about this place, except that we see Hunter Mountain in the background. Based on stories I have read, people bring teakettles and write something on it. It is supposed to bring good fortune to those who bring it. Personally, as a photo hobbyist, it is a nice spot for photo opportunities.

Here’s my self portrait.

James hosts Weekend Reflection

Love the self portrait it does look like a great place for photos, hope you had a great time.
I love weird stuff like that out in the middle of nowhere. Just shows that people do indeed have a sense of humor!
pretty unique tradition!
Great self portrait reflection for the day, Ebie!! And such a fun, interesting setting!! I love it! Enjoy your weekend!!
Now this brings back memories of my first trip to Racetrack. Newly engaged I went with my future Hubby and a few of his (male) friends. We awoke in the morning with no outhouse around and the nearest rock or bush nearly a quarter of a mile away.
Great self portrait in that teakettle. Interesting place. Didn’t know about it.
The most original self portrait I’ve ever seen!
Wonderful self reflection image.
What a neat place!
That is so unusual and so funny ! Great idea all those teapots… And you caught the perfect reflection : what a smile !
though we’ve been to DV so many toimes but have never been to racetrack, it still is in my dreams, but both me and hubby afraid of road driving conditions there. we’re looking if there are tours in LV that goes to racetrack instead.
Seems like it was worth the drive. Love the kettles hanging there and your self-portrait.
Quite appropriate since I’m sitting here with my cup of hot tea enjoying your photo.
I’ve never heard of this place! And would have thought I knew Death Valley. We used to have a Jeep and took it to California a few times, but missed this totally. Great self portrait and the scenery shots really show what the desert looks like! Nice.
Looks like a pretty interesting place! Loved the self portrait!
Have a wonderful day Ebie
Sometimes I forget there’s still so much open space in California. It’s refreshing to be reminded there’s still some wilderness there.
What a novel idea – lovely shots!
GREAT reflection! I love it. These kind of shots are nearly the only way I am every photographed, myself. Looks like a very interesting place, too!
I just posted my blog post too about Teakettle, “ebie’s Crater and The Racetrack with our picture at the Teakettle junction.
