Footprints

It was a beautiful Sunday afternoon and we decided to spend a few hours at the beach.  We drove about 40 miles to Point Dume Beach in Malibu, along the Pacific Coast Highway. Point Dume was named by George Vancouver in 1793 in honor of Padre Francisco Dumetz of Mission San Buenaventura. The name was misspelled as “Dume” on Vancouver’s map and has never been corrected.

There are rock climbers at the volcanic cone,

Walking in the sand is a great exercise!

We laid our blankets, had some snacks and watch the gulls

With a split of a second, I saw them, a whole bunch of them, without warning!

What a sight!

The Hiking Trails and the Ocean

I woke up Saturday morning with a little rain almost drying up. The skies cleared and clouds showed up. Immediately I say, to the beach I go.

The Trump Resort and Golf Course has provided a parking space for the public who goes hiking on the trails. In fact, there are scheduled hikes led by docents of the city of Rancho Palos Verdes. This time, it was on our own.

It was an easy hike, but a little ascent coming back.

An Early Morning Hike

Rise and shine! What a great way to start of the day!

I arrived 45 minutes early for our hike at Solstice Canyon. The sunrise was beautiful and the sound of the little waves lapping was inviting.

I walked to the top on a looped road to see the Pacific Coast.

We started at 8:45 with the skies and clouds above us playing their usual harmony. A short 2.1 mile round trip, it was an easy hike, with little or no elevation at all.

Along the way, we saw some wildflowers, and I am really looking forward to Spring when they are in great abundance.

Bermuda Buttercup

Bush sunflower, slender sunflower and the last maybe a rock rose (not sure)

Cliff Aster

We hear some babbling sounds from Solstice Creek, and it was music to my ear.

What lies ahead is another story!

Enjoy!

The  Full Wolf Moon happened on January  9, 2:30 a.m. EST

Source:  Amid the cold and deep snows of mid-winter, the wolf packs howled hungrily outside Indian villages. January’s full moon was also known as the Old Moon or the Moon after Yule.

It was almost full moon, photos taken two days earlier, on January 7, 2012 at Carpinteria State Beach, in the Santa Barbara County, CA.

This shot almost looks like a scene from the movie “Out of Africa”
