Cholla Garden

Welcome February! We have a sunny forecast this weekend in the mid 70′s. Spring is almost here, and the wildflowers are slowly starting to bloom in some areas.

Just in time to catch the last light of the sun.

The desert, too will be filled with cacti blooms. Cholla cactus is the general name for a group of cactus with elongate, cylindrical, branching stems.

Golden Pond

Depending on the time of  day, and the position of the sun, we may have a Golden Pond.

It probably was windy days before we got here, these leaves settled on the pond.

I saw one turtle, but he was too far for me to capture.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Serenity at the Lake

After the hike at Solstice Canyon on  Saturday morning, I took another route heading home. I drove through Pacific Coast Highway rather than driving the hills and canyons. Then I realized that I have not visited this place for a long time.

A welcome mat of freshly watered flowers greeted me, as I walk around the lake.

Soothing green and yellows found an inner peace in me.

Sitting on a mosaic tiled bench, meditating…..

In the background is the Temple where a portion of Ghandi’s ashes is enshrined.

Trichostema lanatum is the scientific name for woolly blue curls. It is a small evergreen shrub or sub-shrub native to arid coastal chaparral regions of California and the northern parts of Baja California.

It is also multi-branched and grows up to 5 ft. tall.  The blue flowers are dense clusters, with the stem and calyces covered in woolly hairs of blue, pink, or white.

Sense of touch
Sense of smell
Sense of love!

The flowers have fuzzy spikes and grow in  abundance from  May to August. The leaves are narrow and aromatic. In some gardens that I have visited, besides visual signs, they have Braille, too.

These flowers attract hummingbirds, too.
