The Stars are Aligned – Oscar Night

Our Weekend Memoirs

I am posting the same article on my other blog co-hosted by Arlene at Dancing in Midlife Tune.

The 82nd Academy Awards ceremony will honor the best films of 2009 on March 7, 2010, at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, California.

Kodak Theatre  is just a few miles from where we live. The train stop in Hollywood and Highland will be closed on Sunday and will reopen on Monday.

There is rain in the forecast, and I hope it does not come.

There are also a lot of organizations doing an Oscar viewing party, and they are expensive.  I will settle on my small screen, comfortable at home!

I wonder who will win….

Letter N ~ Neon

Neon is the chemical element that has the symbol Ne and atomic number 10. Although a very common element in the universe, it is rare on Earth. A colorless, inert noble gas under standard conditions, neon gives a distinct reddish-orange glow when used in discharge tubes and neon lamps and advertising signs. Source here.

Neon Signs

The Frolic Room is a Hollywood landmark next to the Pantages Theater. When the theater hosted the Academy Awards from 1949-59 the bar at the Frolic Room quenched the thirst of the celebrities.

Neon Lights

Neon Lights at the Pershing Square Train Station

In 1924 the first neon sign in the United States was posted around the corner from Pershing Square. Commemorating this art form, neon artist Antonakos created Neons for Pershing Square, a series of neon sculptures suspended from the station’s high ceiling. The twelve sculptures, with their imaginative shapes and bright colors, create an exciting, lively atmosphere in this modern station. This project received a Best of Downtown award from the Downtown News in 1994. Source here.
