This is Griffith Park canyon,  the site of the old Los Angeles Zoo from 1912 until 1965.  Many of the grottos and walls and enclosures were built in the 1930′s by County relief workers and Works Progress Administration crew.

This was once the home of lions, bears, monkeys, macaws, goats, elephants, reptiles and turtles. Roars and calls were heard in this canyon.  There were iron bars, but I climbed and got a good look of the inside.

This site is no longer fit as habitat for the animals, yet it is a hidden treasurer that the younger generation does not know about it.  It is only approximately 7 miles from where we live.

There is a sign posted to respect this place that  holds a lot of memories.  Yet, graffiti is all over.

The Zoo has moved only 2 miles north of this old site, and it is quite totally different from where it used to be.
