Pink Skies

Do you love it when the weatherman says rain in the forecast. Yes indeed, Southern California is getting more rain. Food for wildflowers!

It was 6:45 p.m. and I hear the bull horn from the ranger warning us that the park closes in 15 minutes. You don’t want  to be locked out when the gate is closed. But I do not want to miss this beautiful moment.

These photos were done in a hurry, after heavy rains the whole morning,  no time to think for composition. I tried to pivot the four corners to get a better angle. In the end, I was satisfied.

Fairy Duster

Calliandra eriophylla, commonly known as Fairy Duster, is a low spreading shrub that loves sun and heat. They are drought resistant, and do well in almost any soil.

The flowers, which appear between late winter and late spring, have dense clusters of pale to deep pink stamens and are about 5 cm (2 in) wide.

They are native to deserts and arid grasslands in California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas and Mexico.

Its dark green leaves are like tight miniature ferns, overshadowed by spikey flowers.  The seed pods are like snow peas (when ripe they explode
