Litratong Pinoy: Lata (Can)

Translation at the bottom of the post.

What if all our trash cans would look this? The painting is a great way to disguise the trash. It is also a lovely way to cheer up the streets.
The first photo was taken on December 23, 2010, at the Los Angeles Arts and Toy District. The second is a collage of trash cans taken last October 4, 2009 at the Santa Clarita Art Festival.

Hot Spring, Steam and Clouds

“Grand Prismatic Spring is the largest and one of the most brilliant of Yellowstone’s many hot springs. Its massive expanse stretches approximately 200 feet across. The high temperature of its water is 70ºC (160ºF) ensures that the spring is always cloaked in steam.”

“Deep beneath us magma from an active volcano heats water that rises to the surface through fissures in the rocks. The result is a hot spring that pours almost 500 gallons of hot water every minute into the Firehole River. Did you know?  Prismatic means brilliantly colored. The intense blue color in the center of this hot spring is due to sunlight being scattered by fine particles suspended in the water”.

“Minerals dissolved in the hot water are deposited and gradually build the gracefully terraced shoulders of this feature”.

“The yellow, orange and brown colors encircling the hot spring and lining the run off channels are caused by thermophiles – heat loving micro organisms. These microbes contain colorful pigments that allow them to make energy from sunlight and thrive in the harsh conditions of the hot spring.”

Urban Decay: Rte 66

On Saturday, January 8, my group of photographers did a one day road trip on old RTE 66, driving to Dagget, Newberry Springs, Barstow, all in the State of CA. It was fun and everyone enjoyed. To some, it was their first, but for me it was Part Deux!

Here is a collage of old ruins. The rust forms some faces, animal heads, depending upon how you perceive or angle your shots.

One of my favorite shot is this wood that looks like the face of an elephant. See the protruding trunk and tusk.

We stayed until dusk but left just about the sun was setting.

Love the mountain shadows.

Some habitable, some ruins

The ride home on Interstate 15 showed us the golden sunset.  The sky  in its blazing color is greatly captured from inside the vehicle!

Cloud Reflections

I made this template last night using Photoshop CS2.  A little trial and error, and I perfected the cold calendar month of January the way I wanted.

The cloud reflected on looks like a body of water, but in fact it is on my trusted companion on my travels, my Subaru.

Murals: A New Avenue in Street Photography

It has been a productive year for me: meet new friends, travel to different places especially the National and State Parks. The down side is that every December, I get sick! And I am still recuperating, that’s the reason why I have not updated my blog.

Although my body is not feeling well but my soul and passion in photography is there. I found a new group of photo enthusiasts who loves street photography. I joined one of their sessions.

This is 3/4 of the whole wall mural located in the Toy District in downtown Los Angeles. This was done maybe by one or more artists, a way of showing off their talents and also as a form of advertisement.

This is also another wall mural that I found driving around the area. Many new things to discover, the hidden wealth of beauty in the Arts District.

A facial sketch

Reach out…and touch someone

She looks like a pretty piranha

Mushrooms

These are only a few of them, there are hundreds of wall posters, and each wall tells a story.  Check out my other blog for more mural photos.

I am very thankful for my fellow bloggers who visit me and leave comments (I will return the visit as soon as possible), sending their well wishes, and concerned about my silence. I am alive and well. I also hope to join my favorite memes.
